Cake Market

We went cake shopping on March eighth to celebrate International Women’s Day with the young ladies in our Church home group. International Women’s day is celebrated in many places around the world, but for some reason not in America.

Tamara and her cakes.

This nice lady, (who had a typically ironical Siberian sense of humor) Tamara, sold us the cake we were looking for, and consented to a photograph with her confectionaries. A note on Russian cakes: They are very different from cakes in the States. My favorites here are 1. Honey cake, made with honey and sour cream, mmmmm, fabulous and 2. Choke cherry cake, made of ground up choke cherries, including pits, and again, sour cream, which gives it a delicate and distinct flavor you never encounter in America.
